ok, so i asked about recording methods and got good answers, so naturally now (being a guitarist) i\'d kinda likie to know what effects buckethead mainly useds.  I hear he has TONS of toys, but i mean like the stuff that\'s most frequently in his setup both in the studio and on stage.

Thanks everyone!

Dear Mr. Spencer

Can\'t say what toys buck uses but I use Rocktron Electro Harmonix Digitech Alesis Boss and Dan Electro.

More to the point
Rocktron Tsunami Chorus pedal
Electro Harmonix Pulsar
Digitech rp 50
Alesis Faze Pedal
And Dan Electro 6 Wah\'s in 1

it sort sounds like a tubelur strangled jackhammer...

Whatare you playing with in the local stores ?

Right now i\'m not playing with stuff in stores.  I was looking for an Envelope filter and found a really old DOD FX 25 (before the one House uses, and i think buck\'s too). now i\'m trying to get a good sound outta that, and playing with my new guitar.  So, i\'m going to start getting stuff again next year.  I was thinkin about a roger mayer pedal and a midiverb of sorts.  probably midiverb II cuz it\'s got that neat echo/delay effect on it.

So, probably that stuff.

When I like to sound like a complete maniac on my guitar, I usually break out the Boss Delay/Pitch Shifter pedal!

The envelope filters are fun (bucket definately like\'s them too). The one I\'ve got is actually the Boss auto wah. Has a few more tricks than the FX25.

I\'m still planning on buying a MXR phase, pretty sure Bucket\'s got one in the line-up although I don\'t remember ever really hearing it.

I\'ve always seen Bucket rely on his trusty Boss stage tuner pedal, I don\'t know what I\'d do without mine!

Whammy, Cry-Baby, Midiverb II... I\'ve got a Midiverb III, and it\'s OK, but not quite focused for guitar, so many unusable settings, it seems more focused for recording, for vox and stuff.

Sometimes I wonder if Bucket ever uses Tube Screamers. I get my absolute best crunch on my triple rectumfire using my old Ibanez ue-300 (It\'s got a ts-9 in there!)....rock on!!

spencer

I don\'t know about the tube screamer, it seems like he doesn\'t.  He\'s just that good, :)

but another question:  Is there any good pictures of buckethead\'s envelope filter?  being the obsessive guy I am, i wanna know if it\'s the one i picked up or the one on this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=22669&item=3749814891&rd=1

For anyone who\'s good with pedals and stuff, does anyone know if there\'s a large difference tone wise between the different iterations of the two knob green colored DOD envelope filters?  I\'d really like to try and find the "best" one to get the Frozen Brains sound.  I love that sound!  Also, when i try and find somethign out that\'s very obscure, the chances of me stopping is slim to nil, so some help would be gladly accepted!

But Travis, if you could list some of his more frequently used gadgets, that\'d be really neat.  I\'m sure a lotta people wanna know what he uses, to learn from it.  I know I\'m really bad at gear knowledge and whatnot, and well, when i see a pedal that\'s in regular rotation with some of my fav. guitarists, then i start looking into it, seeing what i can do with it, you know.

Thanks!

some poeple but not all stick with a straight line up for me I (was) one of them I had the must crappy pedals ever named after food peices yup! you geussed it Dan Electro the whole Envolope sceen doesn\'t do it for me, with me its gotta a phased out tremolo heavy racket something that  makes the nieghbors downstair pound, with Bass it all about Octaves one thing I wanted so much when I first started out was a Q tron + but sadly I was told this did\'nt work for the guitar, But It works for the Bass. oh well I just Contradicted my self UUUUUHHHHGGG!

Travis

Spencer,

There is no common set up. It\'s different everytime out. Some stuff that is used more often than others can be seen on the Making Axiology page here:
http://www.tdrsmusic.com/makingaxiology.html if you haven\'t seen it.  A lot of the bizarre sounds Buckethead comes up with he can get with just a guitar plugged straight into the board just using his hands.

spencer

Neat stuff!  Does he have a choice of pedal brand?   I saw al otta Boss looking pedals in pictures.  I\'ve seen him use Roger Mayer, DOD, and MXR too.  There\'s always the Crybabies too (wahs).  I\'m just really curious about guitar setups rightnow, and http://www.guitargeek.com  Doesn\'t have buckethead or anything near it!

Come on you guys, i need to know this stuff to fulfil geekdom!  I wanna have four majors in geek:  TV/Movies, Music, Comics, and Effects!

Hey Spencer, wish I could give you some insite on this but I am guitar gadgit deficiant, but I did see that on Buckeheads website he will be in my area doing a show on 10/25. I am going to do my best and make that show so I will try and get a close look for you as to what he is using on stage. Not that I will really know what I am looking at but I am a quick study!

spencer

Neat stuff!  I\'d totally hit up the San Diego show two days later, but alas, the venue\'s 21+!!!!!!!!

Thus makes three times i couldn\'t see buckethead due to age, though i got the best of show #2, that\'s right, i called my mom early in the morning and said "can we go to anaheim and see buckethead?" and you know what?  i did!  Take THAT 21+ venues!

Either way, i think i\'m going to go to the san diego venue early and see if I can give Bucket this 12" Giant Robo toy i found at the comic con and some other thing that\'s yet to be determined.  Does that seem, like, alright to do?  It may be weird for him and stuff, right?  I dono....

sngwthme

As long as you don\'t get all psycho crazy on him I think he would probably get a kick out of it. Then you can ask him yourself what gadgets he uses.  ;)
Sorry about the age thing, it does suck in the cases that you can\'t participate in things, but just a word of advise, don\'t be in hurry to get older, getting older is great, as with age comes wisdom, but enjoy being your age as long as you can........then once you are 21 you will appriciate it all the more....

D.O.D

Friends- "as with age comes a lot of stupidity;" DOD  AGE 80

sngwthme

Ah yes there is that too.. but I bet you have a few stories to tell that we all could learn from. .....

gkg

yeah - D.O.D., tell us about the time...   :-*

fear not Travis, i wouldn\'t ask him to divulge your childhood travails.  much.   :o

with age comes the realization that you wasted more time than you meant to on things that matter less than you thought...  and the urge to catch up before it\'s all over.  or so it is for this beasty.

Spencer - you do what feels right to you.  Plenty of people give him things and come up to him for autographs, so i think he\'ll be more flattered than put off, if that\'s what you fear.  and since he\'s wise enough to have a buckethead, he won\'t feel you\'ve invaded his privacy.
Peace.
