how do you get clearance to use tv and movie quotes?  i have some TCM, Invader Zim, and other movie quotes in quite a few of my songs.  i\'m about to start sending demos out and i don\'t want to get sued for something stupid like this.  i hope someone like travis or ny1 with ideas can help me

uhm my music had samples from Movies, but I just gave it out for free, then let it slide into obscurity.

I\'ve used samples too but never made money off of using samples so i guess its pretty much legal.

yeah but if i actually get signed and use those quotes i would have to get permission somehow. right?

Yes you\'d have to get permission if you\'re going to sell it as your own work. You may just cite where you got your sources somewhere for now just to be safe, if that\'s what youre worried about.

If you\'re doing only undergound / amateur stuff there might be nobody to complain - but it\'s still not legal to use other people\'s work without permission.

What do you think is the reason behind Giant Robot NTT not being re-released?

My thought was that when the re-release was in the planning stage, someone got the right permissions to use them. Not sure this could have been released without some signoffs....Travis?

\'Johnny Sokko\' is being sold as DVD-Rs on eBay - and nobody complains. No official release is available AFAIK. I don\'t know nothing about \'Willy Wonka\'.
BTW: NTT has lots of \'Chainsaw\' samples on it, that\'s another story.
