Am I the odd one?

Aloha everyone, I am new to the forum and just wanted to introduce myself. As a huge fan of BH I am always left feeling like the odd duck. My wife and most of my friends think he is too wierd, they just don\'t get him. When I first heard BH I was like "this is the best s**t I have ever heard". After years of exposing people to his music and not getting the same response I now keep it private and to myself. I have actually become very selfish and don\'t play his music for other people anymore unless they ask. Do others feel that way too?

Actually most of the time I do, there is the exception of a few friends that really respect great guitar musicianship and have started listening to him. Other than those couple of friends no one else seems to appreciate what he does.

I don\'t get it.  I was just listening to "I Can Only Carry 50 Chickens At A Time" and I honestly don\'t see how someone could NOT like it.  I just don\'t get it.

It\'s still an enigma to me too.

My friends and family may not share the same enthusiasm that I have, but I generally get very favorable comments about BH\'s music.

I had it much rougher when I was introducing Zappa and even tougher, Captain Beefheart to people who had never heard that type of music before.  I had to be real choosy about who I would play the Captain for.

Hell no, I try to turn as many people on to Bucket as I can.

That\'s just how I am, though, it\'s not just Big B -- I\'m an "advocate" of everything I really enjoy and always try to see how many others I can get that might share the same appreciation for whatever I\'m into.  It\'s fun.

Jeepers, I must be odd. Almost all of my friends have enjoyed Buckethead\'s music when over my house.  The fact that he covers so many styles really helps. Funky,spacey,heavy,pretty,calming,disturbing... it\'s all there. Just have to choose the right one for the right person. My Mother ( who I had not seen in 14 years ) spent 10 days here this past summer, left for home a complete fan !! I sent her home with copies ( not burns ! ) of many extras I had here ... Colma,Giant Robot, Praxis ( 1st cd ), Population Override,Cuckoo Clocks. Sweet. She had me burn her a few shows on dvd too ! Loves her some Buckethead  ;D  She\'s in her 60\'s and crazy, still .... that was so cool.

slunkatron

Wow, my mom is in her 60s and really like Colma, but no way on CCoH.

A few of my friends think he\'s pretty awesome. One of them thinks that he\'s pretty damn good but the "bucket gimmick is stupid/turns him off"

For me the persona of the "bucket gimmick" is pure genius. As an artist I am so inspired by the image. Of course it is totally backed up by his talent. I think I turn people off because I am so enthuiastic about who he his. The music speaks for itself but in the land of ukuleles, jawaiian and slack key it is difficult to tune some peoples ears.

I just think a lot of people are scared off by what he wears.  I think it makes him standout, heck his music makes him standout enough.  ;D

Your not an odd one  :)
I don\'t "keep" him to myself ... ask anyone who has talked to me for more than 3 minutes....they "know" about Buckethead... I go about daily...capturing victims with enthusiasm and excitement...and trigger at least a sense of curiousity.
It\'s impossible to really explain his music...and if it isn\'t possible to let them hear it...I ask them to check out youtube...and I send them to read Buckethead\'s story and the visitors center at Bucketheadland.com.
I will help but let them stumble here and there...I never "push" them into the park...everyone must find their own way if they choose to be a bucketbot.

I try not to get frustrated or out of sync if someone doesn\'t "get it"...I just smile and then feel kind of sad for them missing out on all the FUN!
It seems it takes a bit of a twist to completely appreciate Bucket Wonka wedges and the concept of imagination...and FUN.

My best introduction experience:
i introduced one of many peeps to Buckethead\'s music. One paticular fella\'s eyes lit up...he got a big smile...and said
"I never knew a guitar could DO that!!!"
haha...  :D

In a nutshell...I\'m a happy headstump...whether others get it or not.

BIG HUGZ!   ;D

Some of my friends make fun of me for liking him (even though I\'m huge and can rip their heads off). They know my weakness. They know he\'s skilled, but they still make fun of him because of his KFC/Autistic inclined behavior and history. I play football, and I\'m defensive lineman, so every team I face I ask "have you ever heard of Buckethead". No one has ever heard of him, except for this one kid in front of me said he sucks. I just blew through him and tackled the qb, then told him thanks :p. I never get embarrassed, I just keep trying to turn people on to Buckethead, spread his legacy. I turned about 15 people on while playing Guild Wars, and they spread the word some more. My friends stopped making fun of me and him when I got really good at guitar. It\'s like they finaly realized how much impact he had on me and how much of an important part of my life he was. It was like a miracle... All I have to say is to keep going and if they don\'t like it then oh well. It\'s also a good idea to introduce b man to some influential people. Imagine what would happen if the [glb]PRESIDENT[/glb] was addicted to Buckethead!!!!!!!!
