Listening to Please Tomorrow in aw!

At long last my PT & BB2 CDs arrived from PP today!

Now I\'m off to enjoy them both!

I received Please Tomorrow a few weeks ago and have been listening to it in aw like everyone else here. I couldn\'t put into words what I thought about the CD until I red someone else\'s comments on viggo online about PT.

Yes, that\'s it for me. A poem! And I do love this CD very much. Thanks to all for putting it together. You are all very talended.

After looooong waiting I finally got my PT, from PP and the problem was not at them but at USPS. They kept the pakage for almost 2 weeks before sending it away to Sweden. I have as all of you listened to the cd and I have only one question... ARE YOU DEAF? As far as I can hear it is 35 min. of people tuning their instruments until they finally begin to play Moonset and Sunrise. Which are the only two tracks worth listening to. I do not see myself as a critical person but to pay $24 for 5 minutes of good music is a bit too expensive. I don\'t even think of it as a rare cd from a rare person. I love VM\'s poetry and photographs but I do not care for his music when it is as experimental as this. I hope I am not in his dreams because it seems more like night mare to me....*huuuuuuuu*

So I go for Buckethead, Thanatopsis, Radiohead, Bjork and Depeche mode. They have at least rhythm in there music even though it is also experimental.

Exactly gkg. I don\'t believe that everyone would or even should like this CD. That is the beauty of music, only music is true to itself no matter what form. I am actually glad to hear your opinion of this and it not all being positive. There has to be that balance. So thank you Pax for sharing that. Moonset and Sunrise are a highlight of this CD, none have argued on that, but to get to the moon setting and the sun rising we must endure the journey of the night. That is what I take away form this experience of Please Tomorrow. When you next sleep, remember your nights dreams. Broken up pieces of ideas thrown together to make some or no sense, but somehow you understand it in the end. Moonset and Sunrise become the peaceful understanding to the ending of the night. I believe that all of us who have raved about this CD have recognized that and is where our compliments come from. Not speaking for everyone  but maybe that might shed some light to you as to why we enjoyed it so much.

Personally, I love Nocturne! But what I like most, after more than a dozen listenings, is the progression through the falling asleep through dreaming through half-awake states. Funny, I\'ve reached a stage with music where I don\'t need to LIKE everything I hear. Sometimes I can just disengage and let it carry me somewhere. Often the same piece or group of pieces will take me somewhere different each time I play it.

that\'s wonderful!  if only more people could approach life that way.  we don\'t all have to like the same parts of things to each enjoy the whole of it.

I've had Please Tomorrow for a few weeks now and the more I listen to it the more I like it. Great music while driving in the car or in front of the computer. There's a wistful, lonesome sound to that piano and the hopeful guitar will take you places if you let it.  

I have found with a lot of Viggo's art you gotta delve and usually worth the time. An earlier post said something about music being true to itself. I like that.

Pax, I can certainly understand your take on PT.  I will say though that this is the better of VM\'s other "experimental" albums in that at least there is something worth listening to eventually.

If you don\'t like the noise on this album, may I humbly suggest you never consider bidding on "The Other Parade".  
Suffice to say, and strictly imho, it sounds like someone actually recorded a tone deaf acid trip having a psychotic episode. It\'s the worst album of noise I have ever witnessed in my life. No exageration!

Then again that\'s why they call it experimental. I think the experiment is recording noise to see if anyone will buy it.

I see it as an investment now. If I\'m ever desparate for cash I can always sell it on Ebay.

Finally Ocean, someone who understands what I was thinking but not mentioning. The feeling that people is buying everything VM does only because it is him creating it. As if you have to love it even though you actually don\'t.  Thanks for stating it in such a polite way...

I\'d also like to thank gkg, SNGWTHME and Suzanne to shed some light, for I didn\'t see it that way. Of course we can not like the same kind of music all of us. But to call this music made me soooooo frustrated.

I\'d like to recommend the Icelandic female sing & songwriter Bjork if you like experimental music. It is fun and the lyrics are really worth listening to.

yep - it\'s all a matter of taste, folks - in music as in art, some pieces are not created for a mass appeal but to please those creating it.

as for the idea that people are buying things only because VM created it - those people are fools and i have a bridge he built if someone wants to bid on it.  what some folks appear not to know is that most of his CDs were recorded long before Aragorn hit the screen.  long before the sophmoric craze for all things Viggo began, he was part of the music and spoken word scene in LA.  i know this not from some fan-zine but because a friend of ours is a part of that same scene.  it\'s not PR or what have you - it\'s just the man, his son and some friends recording what they enjoy.

if you don\'t like it, cool - buy more Bjork or what have you - but to say it\'s not music is to fall into the same closed mindset of those who once declared that the works of Picasso and Pollack were not art.  it doesn\'t have to be pretty or have catchy lyrics to be music.

Those words indicate the same as the tailors in HC Andersen's story "The emperor's new suit". Which is if we don't acknowledge this, then we're narrow minded and cannot see beyond imagination, fantasy and creativity. Am I less than you, have I less creative mind, what do you know about that? I stated my opinion and so did many others.

I am sorry that I was a bit rough in my first statement, asking if you're deaf. Of course you're not but I was so frustrated because the cd was not what I had in mind. After downloading and listening to Moonset and looking at the titles for the rest of the tracks, I was expecting music being floating, dreamy, drowsy, almost like lullabies. A cd to fall a sleep while listening to. To put on after a hard days work, drifting away in the mind and thinking of all the beauty there is in life.

I now understand why the cd is called Please Tomorrow; I didn't realize it actually was PLEASE tomorrow. However SNGWTHME gave me something to think about. I reminded myself of all the other albums in my collection, bought because of the one particular "song". And feeling betrayed because the rest of the tracks didn't sound as expected.

I apologize if I offended anyone, Mr Mortensen in particular, though I doubt he'll never find out...

It is now past midnight so I'll say goodnight, put on Moonset and Sunrise to let them "play" me to sleep. Because I will indeed enjoy those tracks a lot.
