and the way to learn about the other artists?  as said above, look around the site.  give a listen here and there.  follow links and do searches to find out more if you find stuff you get into.

I did like the pic of Viggo as well, but there\'s more than just a pretty face on any artist.  I think to truly understand what the music is saying to you, is to really listen to the music and not so much the lyrics.  I have to admit that I was one that  listened to music just to listen to it.  I never really listened to feel it.  Fortunately, I was able to hear different music and enjoy it.  I grew up listening to disco, country/western, salsa, cumbias, hip hop and other heavy beat or light beat music.  But when I heard "pandemoniumfromamerica", it made me feel how amazing something can sound.  I mean you can hear guitars and keyboards and bass guitars, drums and other instruments, but I never realized how beautiful of a sound can come from a harmonica or even a wheelchair.  I mean come on a wheelchair.  People might think you were off, but until you really listen to it, you can\'t understand.  In some ways its like a painter who just takes his paint brush and dips it into a bucket of painter and then with one stroke on the canvass says he\'s finished.  Talent isn\'t just making pretty pictures and lovely music, its becoming one with the picture and making the music apart of you.

Sorry for rattling off at the mouth like I did, I didn\'t mean to.  I hope everyone will forgive me and Travis, keep up the great work and keep bringing in the great artists.

speaking of the wonderment of sound - i don\'t watch much network tv but last night i happened to switch on just for background noise... something but nothing, you know - well i chose wrong and right at the same time.  wound up catching an epi of Evening Magazine - and it had Jon Brumit and Cheryl Leonard.  these two are SF locals who make "music" in a "new" way.  

Brumit from garbage - seriously, broken bottles, crushed cans, trash and recycle stuff.  he\'s even recorded the sound of two people playing tennis, with a steak in place of the ball.  (i don\'t know of a website for him, but i have an email address if someone wants to reach Brumit)

Leonard from nature - rocks, twigs, bones, leaves.  she actually composes pieces around these "instruments."  (http://www.allwaysnorth.com)

they each have an "orchestra" and the clip showed the two of them coming together for the first time to jam.  what a bizarre cacophony!  really wonderful - primal earth meets man\'s waste land.

the words in quotes:  music, new, instruments and orchestra.  i single out these words because naturally when we came to awareness as creatures it was exactly as tvega12004 is starting to see it, that certain sounds please or captivate us.

  WOW! I make a drumset out old Biscoti contaners once never though of recording them tho awell garbage is very overlooked overturned trashcans make great drumming material now being a janitor I know these things..

there was a FANTASTIC drummer on the streets in NY, used to camp across from the Chelsea - it drove me mad at 3am, but man he was fantastic.  all he used was a plastic wash basin and hands or sticks, man o man was he good.  for hours.  and hours.  still, really fantastic.

a well made instrument is a piece of art, but so is a hollowed log, in the right hands.

yah - the no car thing is part of why i miss NY.  walked everywhere.  live too far from everything for no car here... and the hips/knees won\'t allow serious biking any more.  

on the other hand - haven\'t been frozen in with burst pipes in the whole time since i left NY.

truly, it never sleeps - we lived in the Chelsea and i used to be able to have the doorman/deskclerk walk our doberman in the middle of the night... while we were out til all hours.

sigh...  i really miss the place.  i understand it has changed alot = but i\'d like to see for myself.  like the concept of money not solving all your problems, i believe it to be true, but i\'d like a chance to prove it for myself.

I\'ve never been to New York, but I\'ve always wanted to go.  I\'ve always lived in Texas, at least since birth.  Never been out of here, except to Mexico to visit family.   But I\'ve always wanted to visit that wonderful city.  I don\'t believe too much in bad stuff about it, I try to really see the beauty of it.  I guess I\'m a little nieve about it.    What would you recommend I see when and if I ever get to visit.  And you are right about money, it doesn\'t bring any happiness.  But its a lot better than being without.

ah, as Maggie the Cat would say "you can be young without money or old with money, but you can\'t be old without money" - life is just too hard that way.

Texas has its charms - but i didn\'t really enjoy living there as much as NY or CA.  

lets see... the touristy stuff i don\'t need to recommend.  other than that - check out the Chelsea, because it\'s one of the neatest hotels/places on the planet.  great art, funky atmosphere and WONDERFUL people.  there are lovely little places all around, although the neighborhood has been yuppified since we left - sadly.  

walk around the village naturally, but hit places like 14th street, the 26th street annex on a sunday morning... grab the Voice and see what\'s playing and doing for free around town.  off off off broadway is hell-a-fun as they seem to say out here.

different people enjoy different stuff - so it\'s hard for me to say what you\'d like.  i just love the place and its energy, people, architecture (the old stuff more than the new, but that\'s just me).
