Im just looking for a review of the Buckethead album with Jah Wobble album (divination). Anyone heard it and can give me a decent review, it would be appreciated. Cheers!

Duckhead

Your talking about Ambient Dub Vol 1 right? I wouldn\'t call this a BH album but rather a Laswell album with BH on it. It is mostly ambient after party type music, lots of bass & drums with some elements of dub, it is more structured than most ambient type music. Buckethead\'s influence can be heard here and there but like many Laswell projects it is not about the musician as much as it is the "sound" being created. Most of it is pretty slow but there are a couple of more more upbeat tracks. Relaxing music to wake up to, wind down to or meditate to. But if you are looking for chill-out grooves and not something Buckethead specific, I prefer Laswell\'s Lost in Translation. BH only appears on one track but it is a great cd if you want to explore Laswell\'s methods of layering sounds in an ambient atmosphere.

The bottom line is if you are not a fan of ambient type music then don\'t get this, but if you are open to listening to the experiment of creating music through the layering of sounds to create something that is not easily pinned down to a specific genre, then you will enjoy this. Some of Laswell\'s ambient stuff can be boring or repetitive, but these albums are not imo.

Duckhead pretty much nailed it. It isn\'t essential for Bh fans, more for completists to fill out their collection imo. If you dig Laswell, too, then they are worth checking out, though.

the subharmonic releases are tricky and mired in shady dealings. your best bet is ebay. BUT just be careful and try and make sure you\'re getting one of the original pressing. Matarazzo (who owned Subharmonic) started doing some weird shit with re-releases after the partnership broke up. and from what Bill told me he kept the masters so I have no idea what Matarazzo used.

the first two albums are pretty good. ambient DUB, so keep that in mind. some tracks with beats, some pure ambience.

Akasha (also on Subharmonic) is great - 1 disc of ambience with tracks by Bill, Mick Harris, Haruomi Hosono and Anton Fier and one with deep rhythm tracks - 2 by Bill with DXT and one from Haruomi Hosono with Bill.

Distill is killer if you want pure ambience. lots of the same people as Akasha but also Pete Namlook, Paul Schutze and Tetsu Inoue.
