Hard to believe he would have been 68 tomorrow. Bet he would have had some interesting things to say about the current presidential campaign. I still miss him.

John Lennon was and still is an interesting character. The Beatles were before my time and being the rebellious type I never listened to the music from my folks generation. I have since broadened my musical ear. One of the most interesting things I heard about Lennon (and please correct me if I am wrong) was that he went to party hosted by Howard Hughes and at the party he was admiring a painting by Picasso (I think). John then placed his burning cigarette on the painting and continued to until a hole was burned all the way through. Guests at the party were appalled and thought what a jerk and how arrogant but when Hughes was asked about it he said it was very cool, now he had an original painting with another original artists contribution to it and that possibly doubled the value of the painting since it was such a one of a kind. I can't think of any artist today that could get away with a stunt like that.

Is this story true or just an urban legend??

Never read anywhere that Lennon went to a party hosted by Hughes, although Lennon tended to be a recluse at times so there are comparisons along those lines. This particular story might be something that came out of Albert Goldman\'s book.

I had the facts mixed up - it was a party At Hugh Hefners and a Matisse not a Picasso. This is what I found on the web: http://david-holmes.blogspot.com/2007/03....on-hefners.html

Here is a song I love about John Lennon.  It\'s by Hamell on Trial.  There are some parallels between Hamell and Buckethead.

Interesting. Who is this Hamell fellow? I always thought there were parallels between Buckethead and John Lennon-they were/are both willing to just put their art out there, then let you decide.  Both didn\'t concern themsleves with what anyone thought about their music or lifestyle. I\'m probably not making any sense.

He pretty much beats the crap out of his guitar, sings songs and tells stories and jokes.  He tends to be a bit raunchy at times and has a twisted sense of humor.  Not so much a show for the kids.  I\'ve seen him a few times and have always enjoyed it.  Hamell also just puts it out there.  I think he has a website, if you want to check it out.
