Quote^^^^i don\'t really wanna think about this but, are you suggesting that he\'s gay :-/ :-X

Yeah headcheese, he might or might not be gay. If he\'s not, then he is perfectly valid as a person and artist.

If he is gay, however, then you have been wasting your time with all those 122 posts you have posted to the board. All those excellent compositions and solos, they all actually suck.

Oh, and headcheese. If for some reason you decide that Bucket is in fact gay, you can unload all of the bucket CDs you own to me.

This interview from Bootsy just made my morning.

Dude.

Now I\'m dreaming of a video with Bootsy, Bucket, and LeBron. Once LeBron wins a championship, that would be the sweetest thing in the world.

Also, I think it would be way fucking cool if Bucket showed up for a Cavs playoff game. You know how they pan to Jack Nicholson, and Spike Lee and whonot? Imagine ESPN panning to Bucket in the stands. I could rest in peace with that kind of justice in the world.

I was just argueing with and uninformed person on youtube yesterday and before then. He said the basic stuff like Big B is all about speed and doesn\'t play with soul an feeling. I posted a pretty long reply yesterday telling him about soulful and emotional Buckethead albums and haven\'t gotten a reply since. :)

I haven\'t argued Bucket\'s case like that. But I have thought about all the examples I have of the B\'s soulful playing. Not that B needs defending, but cases abound.
I have a small but growing B library. Most of Electric Tears, most of a diamond in the rough, some of pop override....I even think some of the Death Cube material has what I consider soulful playing.

I also think B has material that is unmelodic, repetitive, and borderline obnoxious. I\'m grateful for this, because I like unmelodic, repetitive, and borderline obnoxious.

I think that is one reason that I got sucked into B\'s world. I hate this cliche, but his catalog is like a box of chocolates. Bucket (or Herbie, I can\'t remember which) is quoted as saying something like \'One day I watched Dumplings. The next day I went to Disneyland...\'. This perspective of doing what feels right at the time is reflected in his material.

And isn\'t that attitude--doing and playing what you feel--indicative of art that is heartfelt? Yet ironically the criticism of soul-lessness is common to the uninformed and uninitiated. And I think in large part it stems simply from the mislabeling of the B as a \'shred\' guitarist.

Peace to ya.

I saw this review online as well. I just had to put my two cents in. I think this is a great review, and your angst is misplaced. Now, I understand how hard it is to be with the Bucket, when there are so many uninformed masses out there. But this is not a transgression.

However, there is a common transgression I have seen repeatedly in net forums. That is, when people state that \'Buckethead is just into playing a whole bunch of notes, and doesn\'t play with any soul\'. This opinion is formed when someone hears that Bucket is a \'shred\' guitarist. Coupled with said person not ever having listened to any Buckethead music.

An absolutely misinformed or uninformed opinion bugs me way more than someone who is actually familiar with Buckethead, and can\'t stand him for some reason or another.

Since you are relatively new to Buckethead, you will learn that his releases are all over the place.  You should research every release before purchasing to make sure it is something you will like.  Personally, I will buy it regardless.  Even the stuff I don\'t listen to all the time usually has something that makes me glad to have it, but I understand not everyone is that way.  You can always ask someone on here what the album is like.  Also, you might want to check out buckethead.tk.  There are tons of people on there that are always sharing their opinions on Buckethead.  You can get a pretty good read on what albums are like by checking around there.  Anyway, sometimes with an album like FF that doesn\'t grab you right away the best thing to do is put it away for awhile.  Come back later and give it another spin.  Over time I think it will grow on you.

Thanks Slunkatron. I appreciate your thoughts. I think my negativity is probably misguided. After all, we do have the gift of Bucket, and the overwhelming majority of his material I like. Which is pretty astounding given the sheer volume of it. And who knows, maybe my appreciation for FF will grow. I know some of the less accessible Bucket (Death Cube and Praxis\' Sacrifist) has done this. So I\'ll have some patience.

Ah there it is...I just started up \'Broken Mirror\' from a A Real Diamond...and my tension is disappearing.

Yeah.
For all I know, Forensic Follies will hit me just right sometime, when I\'m least suspecting it. Then I will be singing it\'s praises. I\'m definitely into Slaughterhouse and A Real Diamond...

Thanks for bearing with me. I can get a little snippy.

QuoteI understand his review perfectly, he liked it so much he almost gave it an 8  ;D

No, No. I don\'t like the hundredths. It bugs me.

Don\'t you cross me.

I have only been listening to Buckethead for two months. I have about 10 of his solo CDs now, plus two death cube and one thanatopsis CD. And some Praxis.

What I am trying to say is that I appreciate Bucket. However, shouldn\'t there be some sort of warning on Forensic Follies that basically says: \' The data on this CD only approaches what could be considered music. If you like this CD, it will only be after 10 listens. Plus, you will never like this CD if you aren\'t part of the church of bucket.\'

I\'m sorry, I had to get that off my chest. I am *this close* to being such a fan of Bucket that I accept every move of his as being some sort of devine act. But that was my hard-earned money Bucket!

OK...nuff said...One other small thing though. Earlier in this thread, someone referenced a user that gave \'Forensic Follies\' a rating of 7.73 out of 10.

Thanks so much to the original reviewer for taking those decimal places out to the hundreths. I would be lost without that type of precision! Actually, if you are reading this, could you expand those significant figures out a ways. I want to know what you really think, not some sort of vague approximation like 7.73
