Title: Fan Fare
Post by: svale on June 22, 2005, 12:20:55 PM
THought I\'d start a new thread around \'fans\'... The whole \'extreme fan\' psychology intrigues me,  how people can actually lose it and cry when they see someone, or grab people\'s clothes, swarm a star, jump on stage etc, etc...  What takes them to this level?
Do \'extreme fans\' take everything to the extreme in their lives, or do they just get hooked on one person or group for awhile and all their energy is focussed in that direction?

If anyone has any weird, funny, or even slighty scary \'fan tales\' they want to share, please do!!
eg, have people (I would assume yes) jumped on stage and tried to remove the \'Bucket"??  :o

Or, if you are an extreme fan of something, someone or some group, please share how you became one and if you\'ve done any crazy \'in the name of adoration\' fan stunts, and why!

ive got a couple quick concert stories..

in cinci 1998 at a phish show some chic and dude were running around naked and then the girl climbed on stage..to soon get carried off by security.   then the doode also was trying to climb on stage and he also got carried off.  Then in 1999 at a cinci Ph show i saw the same chic running around naked again.

Then during the same show in 99 some dumb ass kid standing right infront of me decides to take a jump off the balcony onto people below...he thought he could fly to the stage..then 5 minutes later i see him in his underwear only being carried off by cops..then i see 2 people getting hawled off in stetchers...i guess he landed on a couple of folks and really hurt em.

Then in 2000 in cleveland i watch some doode climb to the top of blossum music center amp...he was way up there and then ran around to jump off...weird thing is he probally jumped 30 feet and hit the ground in a dive roll and ran off...never to get caught.

awe i forgot then in 1999 at a show in michigan at auburn hills i think??  some idiot jumps off the balcony and hurts like 5 people below.
this guy was right next to me the whole show...he was sitting down..then all of the sudden he stands up and takes a dive.

what idiots..well i guess you\'ll find that at phish shows.

anyhow,,that\'s all i got.

i dressed as buckethead at the uk GNR show in 2002,  i did it as a bit of a dare, it was quite funny because a few GNR fans thought i was actually him,  i kept uup the charade by not speaking the entire time i was in london and let my friends break the news.   during the show Axl rose latched onto it ( i think he was trying to make the bucket fall off by getting me to copy his form of pop and lock robot dancing lol) i think Buckethead did too but it wqas hard to tell.   it was all a bit of fun really GNR fans at the end of the show seem to have a good time with it,  and there were some other guys with buckets on their heads in support of Buckethead. Not really a case of an obsessive fan but more support to buckethead in the UK.

the naked people and jumper stories are really wild.  I guess I go to some pretty tame concerts cause I\'ve never seen a jumper...  freaky.   I wouldn\'t want to be the person down there groovin and all of a sudden a body lands on you from above!

hahaha no way naked jumpers :|, wow thats  crazy. hey Chris a few people thought me and an msn contact were Buckethead a few times cause i had a pick of me in the suit i wore at london on the pic windon and my mate well he transcribed a tune or two for binge and grab.   its hard to convince people though cause if they dunno what he looks like out of the mask and bucket.  i got a few vids of me ripping out some of buckets tunes in the outfit but id never let anyone see if their sanity is in question hahahaha.

I think crazy fandom of something is usually carried out by rather sane people who need emotional release and choose to release said emotions in the direction of a famous person.

That said, I don\'t know a crazy fan, but I for one have stood outside of shows I know I couldn\'t get in to get a glimpse of people and give them presents.  I have been to an AFI show, and some of those people are crazy, but that would be bearable if they knew the unwritten rules of concerts.  I mean, when the first band came on, for some reason everyone pushed as far up to the front as possible.  They then proceeded to NOT MOVE for the first two bands\' set.  I ended up having to crowd surf my way out inbetween sets cuz i was so small and was about to pass out cuz my head was below everyone\'s shoulders (this was like three years ago, I was 13 or so).  Then when AFI came on people finally started moving, but they also moved like in the aisles where people were trying to move.  i almost got punched by a guy doing that.

It sucked.  I don\'t even like AFI that much more.  I pretty much stick to Buckethead shows when I can go.
