Title: Home page
Post by: Travis on March 03, 2009, 01:37:37 PM
This site has been here for 14 years now. Over time it\'s become a mess of sprawling pages and out of date html code. I started reworking the store pages a while back and I\'m trying to clean the whole mess up a bit.  I want to beta test the new home page a bit before I make it public. I\'d like to see how the flash and java work for various browsers. Some of the links are dead ends and the over all look will change, but if any of you have time to look I would be interested in any feedback. Can you see the flash elements, do the menus work and any suggestions both for this, the store pages or anything else about the site you would like to comment on. I\'ll incorporate your suggestions as I rework things. If you could let me know if your on a Mac or PC and what browser your using, that would help as well.

Thanks.

It\'s very to the point, which is nice.

I prefer the font in the Forum to the Home page font.

Can the merry-go-round be moved up toward the top more so that you can see the enter without scrolling down on a standard size monitor? (17inch or so?)

Hi Travis. Looks good. Here are a couple of comments.

I agree with nuff \'bout the font.
I checked it out using Firefox and Explorer.
I thought it looked much better using Firefox. When I looked
at it using Explorer the " merry go round " was bigger and did
not look as "tight". ( I do use Firefox 99% of the time, but figured I\'d check using both browsers. )  The flash elements
seemed to work fine with both browsers.
I\'ll poke around some more and report back.

Looking good !

The Flash on the start page looks a bit buggy and outdated. I dunno if it\'s a good idea to have the latest releases on the start page, since you gotta update this every now and then. If you keep it that way, some additional info would be fine if you click on one of the covers (pop-up or something).

The next page looks quite good but the covers are blurry. Clicking on the covers should lead to individual pages for each release with a menu to navigate.

T-

I like that when you click the album cover it takes you to the store.  It would be cool if it took your cursor to the cover you clicked within the store.  At that point you do get a pop-up with more info on that particular album, plus you are at the store, which is perfect.

Thanks.
The intro screen probably won\'t stay. It was there to sniff out Flash compliancy and looks like thats not really a problem. Font displays are a client side configuration. Most people leave theirs at the default but all browsers display different fonts and each user can modify that. It make consistency impossible but modern browsers like Firefox and Safari are pretty consistent. The worst by far is Internet Explorer, the most popular by default. I\'ll check the CSS of the forum and see if I can match it. The resolution for the page is optimized for around 1200 dpi and will probably fall apart for those using small monitors at 800 dpi. So its a game of averages, that why I wanted feedback and I really appreciate your help.
I\'ll keep tweaking. I\'m spoiled by my Mac. Everything look so great on them and when I go check on my PC it\'s scary, but thats the world we live in.

I use Firefox and it looked great to me, although I found the clicking noise when you scrolled over the headers to be kind of annoying an extremely minor annoyance obviously).
