Title: What would you recommend(Buckethead)?
Post by: Orn on April 27, 2007, 04:41:19 PM
I\'m lookin\' to get a new Buckethead album, and was wondering what you folks would recommend.

The albums I have now are:

Giant Robot(not Giant Robot NTT)
Monsters & Robots
Colma
Electric Tears
Population Override

I\'m looking for something in the same "mood" as Giant Robot, or Monsters & Robots.  In other words, nothing soft like Colma.

So, what would you recommend?

I would definitely suggest that you buy The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock, which you can buy at this very site. I\'d say it\'s the most similar to Giant Robot, but it\'s got a "crisper" sound to it if you know what I mean.

I\'ll also recommend albums like Crime Slunk Scene and the newest, Pepper\'s Ghost, if you like the sound of Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock. You can get both at this site as well.

I\'m sure others might recommend other albums, but I definitely think his latest three contain some of his strongest material.

Of course, you have the "non-solo" albums as well, but I\'m not sure whether or not you\'re looking for something like that just yet. If so, I\'d recommend Praxis\' Transmutation, all three Thanatopsis albums, the Deli Creeps album and the Colonel Claypool\'s Bucket of Bernie Brains album as well.

But if you ask me, Elephant Man is my pick for your next album.  ;D

I agree with Slunker that you should go for The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock, or the two most recent ones, Crime Slunk Scene or Pepper\'s Ghost.  They are all along the same lines as Giant Robot and Monsters and Robots, and are not soft at all.

I would also add Inbred Mountain and the Cobra Strike albums to that list.

If you want something even heavier, then you might want to try The Cuckoo Clocks of Hell.  It is loaded with insane tapping.  It is probably his heaviest album.  At least that I have heard.

I\'m sure you love Population Override. Why not give Thanatopsis - Axiology a whirl?  :)

hiya Orn,
First you definatley need to download NTT!! IT is oop. The only place you\'ll hear Scraps and Mrs Beasley!
Since you like the fun in Giant Robot! I recommend Bucketheadland 2...lotz of fun! ;D Inbred Mountain, both Cobra Strikes, Kalidescalp and Cuckoo Clocks of Hell, EMAC, Pepper\'s Ghost, and Crime Slunk Scene...ok...i\'ll be listing Everything..including the Deli Creeps and Cornbugs... ;D
Big HUGZ!  :-*

I highly recommend downloading NTT, it is reaaally neat-o!

I don\'t really like downloading music, I like to have the CD in my hands, the inserts, and whatnot.  A digital form doesn\'t give me the same satisfaction as having something to hold in my hands.

Anyway, I suppose I\'ll go with The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock.  Thanks for the posts.

downloading isn\'t the first choice for me either.  thankfully Travis does have some of the out of print material available for download.

as far as obtaining NTT - i\'m not really sure where you\'re being directed to download it from??  i received a copy from a friend.  the actual cd is pretty much impossible to come by, but it you find one, grab it.

once you start hearing more, you\'ll probably have people offer to send you copies of things that are out of print, and not available for download here.  you can use the artist support section to contribute for the additional recordings.. keeps a clear conscience, and it\'s nice to reward the artist for the material, if you can.... i\'m happy that the option to do that is available here, especially since there is so much out of print, but available, music to be shared.

elephant man\'s alarm clock is a wonderful cd, whether it\'s the first or last one you hear.

have fun!

Yeah, I didn\'t notice it in the download store, so that also presents a moral problem for me.  I used to pirate quite a bit of music, but it began to bother me, so I resolved to stop, and got rid of anything I downloaded illegally.

To tell the truth, I feel quite a bit better about myself since then.

Anywho, I never noticed that "Artist Support" page, that\'s quite an interesting thing to do, I\'m still not going to go scour shady torrent sites for a copy of Giant Robot NTT, but if I ever happen to "obtain" a copy, I\'ll be sure to pay my fair share.

I\'ll download \'em, and promptly pay my share as well.

well, there you go.  you learn something new everyday.  so, orn, you can hear NTT if you wish, and for about $4.50 - you can feel better about yourself.  hahah!

i\'m such a geek, that if i give someone a cd, i contribute!  i don\'t want to tell the person that i\'m sharing with go go and contribute... i would only suggest that if they were asking me for copies of stuff... and then i\'d probably still contribute, just to be sure ; )

i had someone ask me for ISOT.. i pretended i couldn\'t speak english

Any early news on any possible timeframe when this could be made available. I know it might still be too early to tell, but is there any current schedule at the moment as to how long it could take?

I don\'t mean to be nosin\' around here, but I couldn\'t help asking.  ;)

This is excellent news though!  8)

"Somewhere other the slaughterhouse", "Bucketheadland 2", "Kaleidoscalp", "The cuckoo clocks of hell" and "Elephant man\'s alarm clock" are in the same mood as "Giant robot" and "Monsters and robots", you should get them as well as "Inbred mountain" et "The bermuda triangle", in my opinion.

Got my copy of The Elephant Man\'s Alarm Clock the other day :D

I have to say, those that recommended it were spot on, I was blown away by how fantastic it is.  Droid Assembly especially has become one of my favorite songs.

Thanks for the recommendation :D

I have 26 CDs of Buckethead in various groups. For what you seem to like you should check out Sacrifist by Prasis. It\'s a little over the edge but when I first put it in the CD palyer in my truck I left it there for a long time. It\'s my taste bur I think you\'ll like it.

SO HAPPY YOU ARE PLEASED :)
IT GETS BETTER AND BETTER each play.  sometimes i\'m not sure if i\'ll live through that one, or die of the beauty.  sounds mushy, but it\'s true...

That happens to every single Buckethead album, if you ask me.  8)

Glad you liked EMAC there, Orn. It\'s an amazing album, the four parts of Lurker at the Threshold are just divine. A lot of awesome tracks on the entire album, that\'s just how it is.
