I noticed many of Viggo M\'s. poetry CD\'s are now out of print. I was wondering if anyone has heard if he plans to re~issue those titles?
Ebay features his Poetry CD\'s on occasion, however it\'s a mad rip off because his latest release, "Pandemoniumfromamerica" , which sells at his publishing house site percevalpress.com for $10. 00, has auctioned off for as much as $75.00 and bears the misleading label of "Rare", in the description.
It would be lovely to acquire all of his work without getting ripped off by unscrupulous sellers at sites like that.
Just a thought. ::)
Blessings and Peace,
Ocean
I might add the shameless plug that PFA is available here for just $10.00 as well. Viggo and I just finished Live at Beyond Baroque II another evening of readings that will be available soon. At the same time there are plans to repress LABB the first one to be available when II is released. We are also in the middle of another Viggo CD with Buckethead, Henry and Me. I think this fall is a good ballpark for it\'s release. I\'m also going through the masters to all Viggo\'s CD\'s of that are out of print to put together a collection of the best of that material to be released when the new CD of original material is released this fall.
hey, Viggo\'s a little young for a "best of" CD, no? ;)
i read somewhere that Viggo got something like 3 years worth of work ripped off. that had to hurt deeply; i wish that person an appropriate karmic backlash.
new stuff in the fall - happy dance! happy dance!
more Travis work too?? :D
Yeah Viggo got ripped off, I Read that in GQ good on reissue yeah I think Viggo\'s to young to have a Best of but that my bag, just look at Elvis..er Dino Viggo ain\'t playin Vegas yet or is he?! Hidalgo were did he go.. thats whats going to happen to the actors from LotR\'s is there going to have this brush fire that people will want to take them for a loop..er a ride on a whim saying well you were good in this so why don\'t you be in my picture it can be set here but all in all not in Hollywood No No.. Or they\'ll get (erk ) Ripped off like Viggo becuse they\'er Recognized and or don\'t do something or repond to a fan, think well I\'m still Jo Blow from Cocomo Colarado in from the Snow no gives a hoot if I don\'t lock my Car or wear eye liner or play Bass when I\'m really a natural born Horn player so great Viggo Buckethead Henry and Travis are cutting a record.....Sorry for the weird Rant, it not me its the Other ( take your pick ).
Chris 8)
Bad Bad Clout.. Very bad sentence BOO Chris BOO
Not to worry Chris, I couldn\'t make heads or tales of your sentence any way. You do get credit for one of the longest sentences I\'ve ever attempted though. Perhaps I shouldn\'t have said "best of", the point I was making was Viggo has 4 out of print CD\'s people are always asking about. Viggo is not planning on reprinting them but is planning taking the best of them at least the best of them in my opinion and put out a new CD containing those selections.
:o.....
Chris
Chris, you may have gone to the other extreme in your last post.
I forgot to add this sentence when commenting on your first post,
;)...
some people talk out of both sides of their mouth - i get the sense that chris talks out of both sides of his brain - and i like it. i get fried trying to follow it, but that can be a fun trip. :D
best of twitting was tongue in cheek - i tend to keep my tongue there a lot. i like to think it keeps it out of worse trouble.
i\'m really looking forward to the cds, all of \'em. henry seems to be growing into a fine musician, then again, look at the genes and all the wonderful people he has around to nurture that.
so... any solo travis work down the pike or was that just a dream i had?
So far the last two attempts at solo work have turned into Thanatopsis projects. I do have several things in the can I have been holding onto to that are supposed to be a solo projects but of coarse Buckets on it and Ramy\'s on it so...
Ah Yeah sometimes i forget to end one though when I write, the thought processor ain\'t what it used to be maybe I should start just droneing and take out the (.) altogether and no I do not speak out out of both sides of my Brain (I hope not) but then agien that would explain my random personally craze, I spoke out as an artist of Art, Music and my love for the Written word I was very angered that Viggo got ripped off, I have an knowing fear of being ripped off (I\'ll date my self here ) remember the old Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Cartoon back in the early 90\'s well I drew the toy company some pretty advaced pictures of what I would like to see and I think they stole them make them into Toys and the cartoons, but I was 10 er 11 so I did\'nt give a flying hoot about royaltys. (So) Viggo may be wandering around ( yournamehere ) bookstore and low comes across his works, stolen renamed, but lets hope not and just see....
Chris
Hopfully this is a tad bit better sentence wise I just have to remember this is not a slam for Poetry but I could dig up some relics from that time, but everyone would go away scratching his or her head sayin " whoe Crazy coot"
Chris
date yourself all you like chris - you\'re about the same age as my son... we\'re all over the chronological spectrum here.
as for viggo\'s stuff that got ripped... since it seems there was much more crap that didn\'t get taken - only the stuff of true personal value - it feels like either personal violation or indeed a stranger who somehow knew the value of what they were taking. my partner and i were talking about that last night - how the hell do you prove it was yours if you never made a copy? why would you copy something so personal you never expected it to be gone? karma may be the only why that f\'cker gets theirs, but i\'m sure some how some where they will. just takes time some times.
you\'re a generous soul, travis. i\'ll accept something that has a little of bucket, a little of ramy - but i for one would like to hear and know more travis...
;DTravis!, you rule, that is excellent news about the new&reissue Viggo cd\'s!
Be prepared to be flooded with orders when the time comes :o
I have been grumbling and fuming privately for so long about greedy and unscrupulous people who put stuff on eBay for inflated prices (although, if people are silly enough to pay these prices, they might have a point, mightn\'t they?) I\'ve even consired tipping off people about the stuff available from you and PP, but unfortunately most of the sharks are smart enough to keep bidders\' identities private.
Anyway...my credit card is holding it\'s breath...please hurry up with compiling, mixing and releasing the stuff!
Good to hear of these new projects, Travis. More readings from BB will be very welcome, I\'ve about worn through my original one so will probably want another copy of it too. Although there\'s less wear on CD-2 of that set, somehow I just enjoyed Viggo-Exene-Tom on CD-1 better. ;D
Another Viggo & friends CD sounds great, too. Will join the many hoping that he either had copies or could revive the lost work. Very sad if it was personal journals though. Can\'t imagine needing to copy those I guess. Sickos who rip stuff like that...can\'t think of anything bad enough to say about them. >:(
A "best of" CD? Whoa, can you convince him to make it a double CD? Because I know I\'m one of the ones who\'s bugged you before to know if he\'d re-press some of them! And since mp3.com went off-line there\'s no way to find Don\'t Tell Me What To Do other than the nefarious eBay. Dang, the man needs to get his product out there again! Maybe he wants to move on to new things, but there\'s a market for his earlier work that he could be reaching that\'d parlay into more interest in new projects! ...ok, end of rant ;)
Wonderful news! Thanks Travis! ;D
And SINCE you guys are working on a new CD, would you mind passing on a request to Mr. Mortensen? I absolutely loved the (for lack of a better word) chanting in \'They Ate Your Family\'....and wished the song would have been much longer.
Soooooooo.....how about some more of that [glb]chantin\' stuff?[/glb] ::)
Thanks again and the best of luck to you!
Darlene
I think It\'s great Viggo is going to re-issue his CD\'s. I have a couple of them. Tell him to keep his CD\'s coming. I would like some of them that are out of production. I like his poetry, music. I\'ll be waiting for fall now!!! 8)
(http://www.imgmag.com/thumbs//EMOTICONS_lyoness_Cheers.gif) It\'s a pleasure to read such good news after my long absence from this MB.
I look forward to the follow~up to LABB, and the "Best Of" compilation.
I will admit it is regretable to read that VM will not re~issue the current out of print titles. However, given that news, it\'s always something to look forward too on auction sites, or in that rare ocassion that I might find a site that has the two titles I do not yet have, for sale.
Thank You for the update.
Blessings and Peace,

Just browsing over on canoe.ca, and found this:
http://canoe.ca/JamMovies/aug5_viggo-sun.html
"In September, [Mortensen] will release an instrumental CD, entitled Please Tomorrow, on which he collaborated with son Henry and Japanese guitarist Buckethead."
This sound about right, Travis? (other than the gaffe about the "Japanese guitarist" ::) )
from March 05, 2004 - IGN.com: "He said \'Man I\'m so happy you told \'em I was Japanese. I love that!\' I mean [to the world at large] he\'s just a guy with a mask. And also he likes Japanese culture. He said \'That\'s so genius.\' I don\'t remember saying that he was Japanese, though. I might have said that he has an underground following in Japan, but now it\'s been repeated in other interviews. So now he\'s this Japanese [guitarist]. People think that\'s cool, I\'ve got a Japanese guitar player I work with. But I\'m not gonna correct it. Let\'s just say that he was raised by Japanese chickens." Mortensen\'s voice trails off in laughter at the mundane nature of it all.
hmmm... reminds me of a story...
[glb]Thank you for this update! You just made my day. [/glb](http://www.imgmag.com/images/lyoness/EMOTICONS/BouncingBob.gif)
I look forward to September and the new release of Viggo on CD. (http://www.imgmag.com/images/lyoness/EMOTICONS/Rainbow_Note.gif)

I think Viggo is now on a campaign to turn Bucket Japanese . A little Viggo news, for all of those of you who have emailed me questions about Viggo\'s reissues , firstly, let me apologize for not having answered you yet, I am overwhelmed by email questions, if you ask your question in this forum I will probably answer more quickly and for more people then through email.
Viggo, as far as I know has no plans to reissue his old CD\'s. He has told me in the past he would rather put his resources and energies into new works rather them old ones. What he has agreed to do however, and this is always subject to change, is put out a CD of tracks selected from those CD\'s. We have been listening to and selecting tracks for the CD. It may also include some out takes and maybe a new track or two.
We have finished the new CD called "Please Tomorrow". It is 8 tracks of original work with Viggo, Henry, Buckethead and myself. I may if everyone involved agrees, post a track on the MP3\'s download page in the next week or so. Both CD\'s will be available here, I\'m speculating wildly now, sometime
this fall.
great to look forward to new work - love the old stuff, but new is always exciting.

Hello Travis & All! This is my first post here, so be gentle on me! ::)
I\'m Bella & I\'m a poet/writer/psychic reader from South Carolina. I purchased a copy of PFA last fall just out of sheer curiousity--& loved it! ;D Glad to hear that Mr.Viggo is already working with you on another CD--hooray for you both!
A compliation? That would be great! I can understand not wanting to go back & reissue \'old\' stuff, when, I\'m sure he\'s got some new stuff he\'s wanting to put out. :) At least there\'s the interest now and, from all accounts, Mr. Viggo\'s poetry is being sought after all over the web--it\'s a double edge sword, my poet-friend! ;D Go with the flow!
In the fall, huh? About September? Looking forward to hearing how this CD is progressing--keep us posted, Travis. ;D
Time for another cup of coffee--Nice to meet ya\'ll
Peace,
Bella )O(

I know that VM has been an actor for quite some time, however and with all respect to him, I don\'t think the public acclaim/attention prior to LOR was as intense as it is now.
Consequently the public thirst for "all things Viggo" has increased and that includes the search for the now out of print CD\'s.
I know , as a consumer, that I did not realize the full scope of his talent until LOR. Nor did I investigate his other facets , such as poet, artist, musician, prior to that movie. I learned he was an artist, poet, musician, by chance and that intrigued me , so I investigated and discovered Perceval press. It was then that I made my first purchase; "Sign Language". And I was hooked.
While it is necessary to grow as an artist and quite frankly inevitable, in this case and in my humble opinion, I think re~issue of his prior work would be a good thing. Those who are new fans of his acting would find themselves compelled to be fans of his other talents as well, if they could but access the large catalog of that which is no longer in print.
A re~issue would prohibit those who sell out of print titles from making a fortune on his work. Work that he see\'s no percentage from, no royalties, nothing!
An example is a title such as , "The Other Parade" , sold for $10. originally and now sell\'s for as much as $135. on Ebay. ( I know, I bid on this title before my piggy bank begged me to back off.)
It\'s gone so far in the abuse of auctioning all things Viggo, that "PandemoniumfromAmerica", is advertised by sellers on Ebay as , "Rare", and the bidding starts at the current cover price of $10.00 , but has sold for as much as $75! (And that\'s just one example of a low final bid on that title! It\'s sold for over $100. in some cases.)
I donated two Viggo titles to my local public library; "Sign Language" and "Coincidence of Memory", because....well, I actually can\'t put into words, that which poetry such as this communicates. "Amazing", "heart felt", etc... just seem\'s hollow in the face of what brings life to his words. However, given the current market for Viggo Mortensen\'s work, I wonder how long those titles will remain in the catalog considering someone can check them out and auction them off for at least three times their cover price!
A library penalty for not returning these books would be a small price to pay , given the bank someone could manage in feeding the appetite of buyers on auction sites. :-[
That is so unfair to fan\'s who may not know about Perceval Press, so as to avoid the rip off and false advertising. Not to mention the effect the out of print titles have on bank accounts of people that seek out the message at an incredibly hefty price.
Just a thought. :)
Blessings and Peace,
:\'( I\'ve donated books to the Liberary sometimes they go out into the public but sometimes they go home with the liberary workers, One poet I got into before Viggo Mortonsen was Charles Bukowski everywhere I went looking for a buk book the guy working let me in on a little secret " they have the first dibs on Books comeing in " But it sounds like you know the Liberary and know they won\'t be put for X amount of moneys on (ugherch!) E bay so more power to you, then I agein I only have signlanguage and some magazine articals on Viggo...

Blessings and Peace,
Totally agree with you there Ocean!
many times have i been on [glb]Ebay[/glb] and seen Viggo\'s stuff selling for extortionate amounts of money!
Sometimes i feel like emailing the potential buyers and telling them they can get it a lot cheaper direct from Percival Press or Travis, it gets me so mad >:( that people actually buy it as well for that price!!
Got to agree with those who\'d like to thwart the eBay greed-meisters.
QuoteViggo, as far as I know has no plans to reissue his old CD\'s.
I can quite understand the artist\'s desire to move on (based on his track record I\'d have expected no different), but what harm to reproduce earlier work and benefit from the sales? The CDs are already created, just need to be reproduced. And the demand is certainly out there - I would think more than sufficient to offset whatever investment would be required for reproduction...
Oh well, Viggo is Viggo! ;D It\'s wonderful to hear of new projects, Travis, and we\'ll have to hope for many more.
I totally understand that there is much interest in Viggo\'s older CD"s, I have received so many emails, that like the posts here, are all a cogent in fact eloquent arguments for Viggo to re-release his old CD\'s. First again let me say, I\'m not speaking for Viggo, this is just me. As with every artist I work with they all have in common a kind of business dyslexia. The motivation to put something out or the timing of it or the not putting out of something does not even come into their thinking. This kind of business dyslexia is the kind of thing that drives record labels insane and why most of the artists I have the pleasure to work with are independent artists. If Viggo was on a major label the bean counters would have released his old output on the same Christmas release date as LOTR\'s, if Viggo liked it or not. Like Bucketheads Giant Robot NTT recording, the reasons for not re-releasing these records are artistic and personal in nature. Artists tend to like to self edit their output. About 15 years ago my Dad, a prolific painter, began destroying some of his paintings. Works from the sixties and sculptures from the seventies disappeared. When confronted he said those works didn\'t represent what after he was gone he wanted to be remembered for.
As a big fan of this work I was a bit shocked.
I\'m saying all this to kind of give my perspective on this. Sometimes as a consumer of these artists we miss some of the motivations of the artists that in other circumstances endear them to us .
One last thing to consider and I am just speculating here, are legal considerations. Sometime CD\'s released in an underground environment can have content on them that when more widely distributed can become a concern. I\'m not saying that\'s the case here, but I\'m just pointing out that sometimes it not just a case of "you have the CD, why not just put it out again".
While we are in the process of putting together any re-issues I will bring your input to bear as best I can so thank you for your thoughts and opinions.
in Viggo\'s case i think there may be another aspect as well, in a personal sense, it must be rather frustrating to have so much interest generated simply by a movie trilogy he was in - rather than people developing an interest from the works themselves. human nature would tend to make one feel a little self-conscious about this level of interest.
LOTR was a huge commercial success and rightfully so - but the refracted light is beaming on his personal life and other works. a sense of, "would they really give a shit if it weren\'t for this famous group of movies." it brought Viggo and the other actors and collaborators a huge amount of well deserved praise and recognition - but at what cost?
people who got interested in him prior to LOTR or through other means than film are no more special or unique than those who got interested in Viggo via the LOTR, but it is easier to see that their interest is genuinely in him and his work, rather than the reflected glory of LOTR.
it would be my sense that a cooling down period has slowly been taking place. a period where Viggo has been sort of using the fame in productive and positive ways, but letting the hubris die down. 5 years down the road, maybe 10, i\'ll bet a small rerelease might be of interest to him.
Viggo loves and respects his arts. i think other than providing for his family the money aspect isn\'t of interest to him, any more than designer shoes or the hottest sports car.
as for Burton destroying his paintings, i totally understand, but was soundly scolded by my son & lover for cutting up an old one and painting over some others. my son claims i don\'t get to decide what my best work is - that\'s up to the people who own +/or view it. that\'s as may be, but that\'s a tough nut for an artist to accept. i don\'t know if i have, but i did find that some 25 year old poetry i once thought pointless is once again appealing to me.
anita1967 - yep, that was indeed The Vapors. there were a few months there when you couldn\'t turn on the radio in your car without hearing that song at least once.
you can date yourself all you like - i think i\'m one of the elder folk on here as it is so it\'s nice to know there are others. then again, Travis is around my age, so i know i\'m never quite alone. ;D
Points very well taken, Travis & gkg. It IS the artist\'s choice.
...and gkg? I\'ve been resurrecting some 30+ year old poetry myself lately. Most is rubbish, but there are a few that ring bells. So I know what you mean, and I can understand Travis\' Dad\'s POV too. And if the artist can\'t be in control of their own work, it\'s pretty sad. Having said that, it never hurts to let them know the work is valued - sometimes they haven\'t got that message, for whatever reason.
Sitting back now to await the new projects! ;D
Anita1967 said: Sometimes i feel like emailing the potential buyers and telling them they can get it a lot cheaper direct from Percival Press or Travis,
My advice; go with your gut Darlin! I have emailed bidders on PFA . I\'ve shared the Perceval Press site addy. and told them they can save the fortune their now bidding on that title that is falsly advertised by the seller as, "rare".
I\'ve also done the same for those who are bidding on VM\'s other art titles that are currently available @ PP.
Now want to hear something totally ludicrous!? :-/
I\'ve emailed Ebay Admin. with the auction link at their site, to the PFA title and notified them that the seller advertising that title as "Rare", is misleading Ebay members because it is a title currently available @ PP.
Websters would blush, because Admin. Emailed me back and told me that the term "Rare", has varied meanings on auction sites. Then they repremanded me for posting a public notice on their general message board to beware of the fraud being perpetrated on that particular title.
Hey, what can I tell you!? I live by a creed;" If you don\'t stand for something , you\'ll fall for anything."
I\'d rather speak out than stand mute, because no matter what, somewhere , someone, someday, will hear me. Even if it\'s one consciousness that pays attention, it\'s enough to start that one person to dare to think for themselves.
Consequently, those Emails to PFA bidders warning them about the rip off and referring them to PP (sorry Travis, I only recently became aware of this site Darlin.) , thwarted the rip~off . And every bidder for PFA that I contacted posted me back and said, "Thank You for saving me the cash!"
My pleasure! ;)

If anyone knows where I could get a copy of Viggo\'s Don\'t tell me what to do CD, I\'ll be very grateful. I am the engineer on that album and I don\'t have a copy.
THANKS to anyone who can help me ;-)
Hi Theo, I haven\'t seen a copy of this CD for years. You might try Action Box records and see if they can supply you with one. If you come up empty, email me and I\'ll come up with an alternative solution for you.
Thanks for your effort but I just got a copy on Ebay. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Take care.
