a woman photographer/artist has, like so many thousands of people, lost all her possessions in the hurricane. they lived on Canal Boulevard - you\'ve seen what it looks like now, i\'m sure. she and her family evacuated early on and are safe in a relative\'s home. now begins the arduous task of trying to gain some sense of reality and start mapping out a recovering plan.
if anyone has any photo equipment they no longer need or want, please let me know. lights, cameras, tripods, film, enlargers, anything at all. photography is not just her art but the family livelihood; she was the bread winner while her husband went to medical school. he was to graduate this coming May, but the school is ruined so the resolution of that is a major unknown.
naturally, it will be a while before people are looking to hire photographers in the area, during which time i and several other artists are hoping to help her gather the gear so that when they\'ve found a landing pad, she will be able to set up a studio again and get back on her feet.

the national company she worked for doing photo portraits is going to replace all her personal photo equipment!! there are actual hearts beating in some corporations i guess. i\'m pleasantly stunned.
she will still need the art side - we are gathering paints, brushes, canvases etc - her entire studio was lost. that adds up but it\'s not nearly so hard to cover as the large ticket photo stuff, so with that taken care of i know we need not bother you all with it.
there are so many who have lost loved ones and/or special personal items in this tragedy... if anyone is in a position to give to the Red Cross or relief fund of their choice, please do so - if not, then send all the good kharma you can in that direction. it\'s going to be years in building a recovery for those poor people.
I\'m glad to hear your friend is getting her equipment replaced. Yes, there are some good people in the world of corporations, we just rarely hear about them.
When I heard about the break in the Lake Ponchartrain levee, I went & had a little weep. :\'( We were just there last February and New Orleans was such a beautiful place. (I\'ve been there 4 times over the years, mostly for business meetings but finally for pleasure last winter.) Even if people rebuild, and there may be some really good reasons NOT to (like that this could happen again any time), it will never be the same place.
I think Canadian donation sites are just getting underway now. Must go find one.
i hope everybody\'s o.k.!btw,choptop is giving 20% of all cornbugs purchases(on his site.i dunno if that goes for tdrs as well.) in september to the red cross,so check it out!
I think that\'s a great idea. I\'ll match that and make a donation of 20 percent of purchases of all Cornbugs, Thanatopsis and Gorgone CD\'s purchased in the month of September to the Red Cross to help the victims of Katrina. I\'ll post the announcement in the TDRS related forum as soon as I get the chance.
That is a wonderful idea! Maybe put a notice on the store page as well?
What a wonderful bunch of folks - no wonder the music is so hot!!
