Title: so long, Long John Baldry
Post by: gkg on July 22, 2005, 02:57:49 PM
his was one of my all time favorite voices.  we had the pleasure of meeting him after a performance in NYC.  we found him to be a lovely gracious and funny man, which was no surprise at all.  it is a very sad day for the blues.

all of that and then some.  to give you perspective - the Stones once opened for him in London.

:\'( we had planned to try to catch his 2005 tour; we last saw him in NYC, must be at least 10 years ago.

well we\'d seen Baldry before - had just hoped for more... greedy thing that i am.

John Lennon - d1980 - only saw him once, not in concert but walking down the street.   there was an energy about him i can\'t describe.

George Harrison - d2001 - never got to see him.

Jerry Garcia - d1995 - sweet man by all accounts and i love his music.  they stayed in the hotel (the Chelsea) when we lived there.  for a week crazy kids hung off our balcony, slept on our fire escape and tried to get into our flat - not to steal anything but just trying to be near the Dead.

Jim Morrison - d1971 - i was 10 and as progressive as my folks were, i didn\'t get to see the Doors play.

Eric Carr  - d1991 - saw Kiss once when i was in high school - back in the day of the dinosauer...  ;o)

Stevie Ray Vahnue - d1990 - saw him once, with Bowie - and he was sublime.

John Entwhistle - d2002 - saw The Who once, also high school - great band, great time.
