D.O.D
It is a shame and much sadness that unfortunately those who you speak of did not get to see a longer life and that the same fate is being had by so many others today. As much in my heart I feel your thoughts I am extremly grateful to fate for stepping in that day and today we can celebrate you. Since I don\'t know you personally, but am certain that you have many other reasons that we should celebrate you on your day, allow me to celebrate you for what I know of you and that which you have provided that has become something special to me, your children. Thank you for being such a great parent to them, providing an example of creativity and expression and helping them by supporting them in finding their way for themselves, giving them a solid foundation to want to express their many talents and gifts that has led them to us.
Happy Birthday Daddy D. Have a beautiful, loving and the most happiest of days!

How well I remember our words of encouragement to our gifted offspring... "Stop banging on the damn  piano !"   DOD

Yeah, and every time  Trav was stuck babysitting for us, he\'d turn off the TV, send us to our room, and start banging on it.   Well, maybe not all the time...my memory is fading...

I don\'t know what inside info you\'re talking about, but I find it neat-o that your family comes on to the message boards.

Everyone I know that\'s 80 don\'t really know how to use a computer, but are learning!

Either way, I hope if i ever have a message board my family comes on and chats it up and provides cool and thought-provoking anecdotes.

QuoteToday I turned 80 and my mind drifts back more than 60 years when  as a mere youngster of 19 , I took a bullet  through the shoulder in Normandy and my combat career came to an abrupt  end, fortunately for me. That same day and following days, the lives of many youngsters abruptly ended. They never experienced  60 more years of a rich , full life as I did. I watched my sons and daughters  become  creative, talented adults. Others did not! Throughout our history , this unhappy fate has befallen our young  men over and over again. Oh ! the shame of it.  DOD

yes its a mystery how luck works.  or is it karma?  your story makes me feel sad and angry too at the way of the world.  but many happy returns D.O.D.  so are you still making your art?

Happy Birthday INDEED!

unfortunately, it feels like i\'ve missed some original post from D.O.D - yeah?

regardless - Mr. D, you are one of my absolute favorite members of the board and i hope that you have MANY happy returns of the day.  as for the dish from Sarah - i can some how picture Travis doing just that!  the poor aspiring musician, forced to imprison siblings just to get some practice in!!  or is it poor trapped siblings forced to listen to endless piano banging??!!

as a only child - i envy the memories you share - and admire that parent that inspires his children to soar.

I think D.O.D took my message of too much info the wrong way. Please , it was a terrific message and if you can find it can you repost it for us. The other messages, too much info, but not the first one.

isn\'t it funny how much great communication can happen within a family, and still a small remark can muddy the waters?

i saw a quote in Caper\'s post - was there more, or did Caper manage to capture it?  (thanks Caper!  :-*)

:-* on both cheeks to all the Dickersons!
