in my experience, nothing is more reviled than a mirror, be it literal or figurative, and true love has meant not only seeing the imperfections, but embracing them as a part of the whole being.
most of the people i know are, to one degree or another, self centered, yet few of them love and accept their true selves. for some their rejection of their true selves leads to rage at the one holding up the mirror, for others the rage is turned within.
