Just letting you all know that the long delayed Meridiem disc is now available for purchase. Go to www.percyhoward.com for more info. Here is a quick review:
This is going to be a hard disc to review (especially on only 1 listen. Definitley a multiple listen experience). I have been fascinated by it since I put it in. I don\'t think I can catagorize it in the fashion of "it is similar to", because I don\'t think I own anything quite like it. There is a note on the back of the sleeve (the disc is in a cardboard sleeve only, no case or digipak, though it does have a 1-sided insert inside with thanks and ASCAP info) that reads "listen to this recording as if you were watching a film". As strange as that may seem, I think it fits perfectly. Each song is unique, but all fit together very well as a roadmap of the heart. There are a lot of "easy" drifting etherial pieces, but there are also some nice jazz-blues rockers. Percy\'s site said that Buckethead is on 4 tracks, but like most albums where he is just a "player" it can be hard to pick him out. Especially with Vernon Reid also on this bad-boy. Don\'t fear, one track (at least) has tons of shredding and kill-switch action! This is a "must have" for any fan of Anton Fier - Dreamspeed/Material - Hallucinatation Engine/ Shin Terai / Laswell - Points of Order.
That being said, I would describe this album as if Material was the live band for Lovage with some Pink Floyd - Echos mixed in on top of some Michael McDonald crossed with Art Neville male vocals and some nice sultry low-end alto female voices. Make any sense? That\'s OK. You have to hear it for yourself. I give it 4/5.
Hey Fuzz,
Did Percy pay you or something? ;D
This is like the fourth time i\'ve seen this exact post. The cd does sound pretty good though.
No, he didn\'t pay me. :) He was kind enough to let me purchase it early (or tired of my bugging him about it), and I told him I would let people know about it. I just copied and pasted the review to different mbs. I can only imagine how hard it is for an independant artist to get the word out with no US distribution. Of course, if I hadn\'t have liked the disc, things might be a little different ;D.
