Title: Got my copy of EL Stew Rehearsal #2
Post by: mlgudead on April 08, 2011, 05:15:25 PM
I have to say it is definitely the reject songs from the first rehearsal but they are awesome in a car with a nice sub woofer. Overall the album is pretty fun and seems like it will be a collectible to own since only a 1000 are being printed. So if you don\'t mind the wacky jam stuff from the good old phonopsychograph days then this is the album for you.

I got my copy today. Im listening to the first track. It is definately a showcase for DJ Disk\'s skills as a turntableist, especially live. I like it alot so far.

Sound Quality is good.

*Buck shreds quite a bit on track 3: Tortuguero Moniment. Disk also cuts up the Peanuts theme music (Charlie Brown & Snoopy). Lots of great samples. "Put that coffee down!"

The view in "My ebay" had the description that was posted when I bought it.

Even better.

^ yeah, I saw that in the first listings. Maybe Disk could only afford to do 500 in the first batch but I\'m still a little confused about the bonus track, only the first 100 will have it and the remaining 400 wont? seems odd? Maybe he only pressed 100 with the bonus track and he\'s gonna press 500 more w/out?

btw, how is the sound quality and is it a regular pressed cd?

It appears to be a regularly pressed cd. it has a pic of lil Chopsy on it. Chpsy looks like a German Shepherd to me, but it could also be a bear cub. The sound quality is better than I expected considering it was transferred from tape. I think it has very good sound quality but not excellent. I like it and am happy whith it.

Not a regular pressed cd but rather a cd-on demand burn similar to what createspace does for amazon.  See this thread for a small overview of a similar cd:
http://bucketheadland.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Random&action=display&thread=24695

This has been the thing and is really starting to pick up steam for small, independent artists.  Ohm Resistance (Submerged) is doing a lot of it on amazon.  The Blood of Heroes disc that came out last year is now available as cd-r on-demand through amazon.

At least that is what I am guessing with the El Stew disc.  It does read "CD-R" on the underside ring and the booklet sheet back insert, and printing on the cd is more or less the same in quality to other printed on-demand cds I have.  It just makes it more affordable than printing big runs, I guess.  Nothing really wrong with it.

This is one for collectors onlt. And frankly, given that (correct me if I am wrong) the majority of the artists on this CD knew nothing about it and won\'t therefore get paid from it just seems wrong. And if it is that good why is the release limited to only 500 copies, and why does it cost $30?!

dude I would much rather help buckets out than disk.. just doesn\'t seem right what he is doing... are you sure you can read? if you did then you would know that I indicated I would donate...

If you want to help bucket out then donate.  If you want to hear this cd, then buy it.  One has nothing to do with the other.
It is total bullshit to come on a recording studio forum and ask people to assist you to steal music, regardless of how you want to justify it.  People like you are one of the reasons that cds go out of print in the first place.
Regardless of how you feel about Disk\'s ownership of this recording and how he is treating the other guys in El Stew, your request is absurd.  If you are THAT against it, then support Bucket by NEVER LISTENING TO IT.

Its not actually a "donation" if you expect or request something in return.

I wasn\'t necessarily asking for something in return..people on these forums seem to put words in my mouth. I refuse to pay 30 for this type of recording..

Good, and I refuse to upload it so that free-loading bums with an inflated sense of entitlement such as yourself can hear it without paying.

Wow really..?  I have never heard a band quite like El Stew, and to dismiss it just because of an issue with the name... wow whatevers.  In my eyes you cant go wrong with Extract, brain and buckethead together and then add disc to the flavor... something special, something original!

I was debating for a while on whether to get this or not. Now I\'ve decided to do so and it\'s sold out.
