Title: Auction?
Post by: Nubbins on December 22, 2008, 10:48:02 AM
Hey Travis, any chance of seeing any items available in the auction section in the near future? Thanks!

Since there\'s strange things going on at ebay:

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZzosod

I\'d highly appreciate an official eBay store. Maybe a bit higher in price than here but at least cheaper than this asshole. 35 bucks for CD you can buy here for 15? Hello?

35 bucks? Good price ;-). Better look here:
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=1&satitle=buckethead&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sadis=200&fpos=80516&sabfmts=1&ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&seller=1&sass=rare-book-cellar&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D1&fgtp=

10 Buckethead CDs - prices 50$ to 100$ (it\'s Buy It Now or Best Offer so you can get it cheaper  ;D ).

Description for "The Dragons Of Eden" is the best:

BUCKETHEAD The Dragons of Eden cd Rare import

"import" rules - of course seller is from USA.

With regard to the auction, I may have a spring cleaning here soon. In the meantime I\'m going to set up a scratch and dent page and list some broken case and odd ball items that should be cleared out of here. I\'ll do that in a few days and announce the URL here.

Can\'t wait for that.  :)

EDIT:
Travis, have a look at that:

Still more than four days to go and over 16 bucks. You really should think about an eBay store.  ;D

Well its not really a store just some recent an often exploited items on ebay. I usually post new or recently released items on ebay just to keep the exploiters profits to a minimum. The downside is it\'s a PITA. It requires a lot of time and each transaction is a many step process. So after the dust settles and new release ebay sales slow down I stop till the next release. We much prefer to sell directly from our store. I\'ll keep a presence on ebay till it costs more that it makes to keep them there.
We have been doing Google ads to try to let it be known as much as possible we are here and there is a much better option than Ebay and Amazon for a lot of these CDs. Obviously thats not of that much interest to people reading this as you are already here.

Well, we also try to include a shop link to about every album article on Wikipedia. Sometimes they are removed - I just renewed the link at the bottom of the main article - but in most cases they are there. I don\'t know how much traffic you get through this, you might check your logs...

You really should update your software so that eBay orders are processed automatically. Do you want some thieves to make the profit?

I\'m still for an official eBay store, those assholes sell CDs for two or three times the regular price - it\'s ridiculous to not do anything against it.  ???

"Tour only", "rare", of course...

btw:

Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: Travis on July 12, 2009, 09:33:09 AM
The clearance page is really for end of stock, broken CD cases and other odd items that accumulate around here. I\'ll be adding more to this here soon. The auction I have used for unique and rare items that I wanted to offer to readers of this forum as opposed to ebay. I have a few items and I\'ll post ahead of time when they go live. About running an ebay store, I do what I can, when I run auctions the process is as automated as the system allows. However, ebay buyers seem to require a lot of hand holding and emailing back and forth, the banking and transactions require bookkeeping outside the store system and even though I use software to run auctions, its still a much more time consuming process than the store here. In the end I can\'t save people from themselves. A little Googleing is all it takes. If I had to chase down every scam and exploitation, I would never have time to make music and that is my reason for being here in the first place.
Most of the ebay auctions are CDs purchased here at full price then placed on ebay for a profit and they are relatively small in number. The problem of the many many downloads that are offered everywhere is one that has no solution at the moment and if you figure a way to solve that you will be a very rich person as every media producer is struggling with it.
The best solution at the moment is word of mouth, and I very much appreciate everything you all do to promote and protect the output of the artists that work here.
Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: slunkatron on July 12, 2009, 05:05:00 PM
Well, I certainly plug this place as the place to buy Buckethead cds.  It seems to be common knowledge on the major Buckethead boards.  As Travis said, at some point you just can\'t save people from themselves.  If they can use ebay they can use google and really have no reason for not checking around before dropping a ton of cash on a cd on there.  And as Travis pointed out, at least most of the cds that are being resold for profit were legally purchased and so Buckethead and co got their cut.
Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: hexaChord on July 13, 2009, 09:07:11 AM
My point is:
If people are willing to pay 35 bucks for a single CD, which was purchased for 15 bucks here, they also would like to buy two or three CDs directly from here. Both groups, the listener and Buckethead/Travis would win from that.
Plus, some words like "tour only" or "rare" are just misleading, not to say lies.

It\'s incredibly annoying seeing all these CD\'s for twice their actual price on eBay, but wherever there\'s a chance to scam, some people will take it.

Hope all is going well Travis.

Surely Travis would be able to identify who he is via his sales history at TDRS and could simply stop selling to him? At least more than a certain quantity per release, say limit him to two purchases per item?
Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: Duckhead on February 20, 2010, 10:33:31 AM
I\'m guessing he orders one cd at a time as needed when people purchase from him, I doubt he stocks them. Looking at his history, he sells very few cds from trds, maybe 2-3 a month. If the buyers checked other sources and did research they would find out he is overpriced.

It wouldn\'t be hard for any seller to advertise on ebay they\'re selling Shadows Between the Sky, and when someone buys a copy just place an order here with the ebay customers address. no stocking, no shipping - just a middle man.

But then, when they get it in the mail, the package will say "TDRS" and it will have a receipt that says the total is $18. So he must buy them after he gets an order, then wait for them to ship to him, then send them to the customer. That must be a long wait.
Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: Duckhead on February 20, 2010, 11:04:13 AM
^ good point, I didn\'t think of that. Someone on another board mentioned they made an offer for ADITR and even though he has it listed he replied it was not in stock, so I still think he orders as he gets bids, but yeah the shipping must take a while.

Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: BloodBucket00 on February 20, 2010, 12:53:10 PM
I read that comment re someone going to order ARDITR, also but never sat and thought on it but yeah, you\'re right, from this it does appear that he places orders at TDRS as they come in via Ebay, even though, as already discussed, this would complicate and lengthen the shiping timescale. However, on some of his listings, he also has numerous copies of the item available- e.g. 3X- which would suggest he might actually have these ones in his possession. Suppose this could just mean that he is confident of TDRS\' stock though. Either way, you\'re spot on, he is a middle man whom is totally unabashed and secure with ripping his customers off for his own gain.
Title: Re: Auction?
Post by: Jamie on February 21, 2010, 06:18:21 AM
^ i was the guy that made him an offer for SOTP and ARDITR as he claimed to have 5 of each in stock and they are currently out of print but he told me he didn\'t have any. i guess he says he has multiple copies of items to keep the listing up for longer. if he only listed 1 he would have to keep relisting it when he sold one. so i think he claims to have multiples of each item but doesn\'t actually carry anything and then just orders it from tdrs when he gets an order. you\'d think it would be illegal to claim you have stock of something you don\'t.

also i noticed someone actually paid him for ARDITR which is out of print so they might have to wait a long time until it comes back. surely this is also illegal- selling items that there is no guarantee he will ever be able to get hold of. i guess we\'ve just got to keep spreading the word of tdrs and stop the exploitation of buckethead fans.
